In other news, I thought I'd give you a bit more of an update on our life in Yuma so far. My favorite thing to tell people is that we live in a double-wide! It makes it sound so white-trash, but it's really not. It's actually quite nice. Perhaps not as *fancy* as our house in Vegas was (not that it was really that fancy...), but it's certainly nice enough to us, and althought it's about 250 sq. ft. smaller than our Vegas house, it's more than sufficient for our needs. We also have a yard! I'm pretty sure this is Daisy's favorite feature of the new house. She loves, Loves, LOVES to go outside and play. We've just decided to accept that this means she's constantly covered in little tiny twigs that stick in her fur. Someday we'll probably start brushing her often enough to get them out. But not today.
Speaking of our house in Vegas, yes, it's still ours and we have no prospects of it not being ours in the near future. Last weekend (the 17th-19th) we went up to Vegas and my handyman-dad helped us replace most of the ugly linoleum with ceramic tile, after which we asked ourselves several times why we hadn't done so before.
It looks a lot nicer, and we hope it gives our old home some added appeal (and gets the dang thing off our hands). From this angle you can see one of the most wonderful things about the whole project: the distance from where we started at the top step to the door (where we ended) was exactly perfect. We didn't have to cut the tiles at the door! In a project where nearly half the tiles we laid had to be cut, it was nice to get a little break right at the end!
Many of you may not know, but Kelsey is finally doing her student teaching! As soon as we knew that we were going to be moving here, she called the courtesy placement office at BYU (the people that arrange for student teaching outside of the area where BYU students normally student teach) and they got right to work. She sent in her fingerprints to the state of Arizona, who got them back to her about three times faster than the state of Nevada. She received her fingerprint clearance a few weeks ago and started student teaching at Kofa High School right after Labor Day. This was a few weeks after school had started, but she'll still be able to finish before the kids go on Christmas break. She's so excited to be almost done! She also has to finish her online Persuasive Writing class, but she's on track to do that, so it looks like she'll finally have her degree in December! As an added bonus, one of the high schools here in Yuma is currently without a choir director, and it looks likely that Kelsey will be able to take over the position once she finishes her student teaching. What a blessing! She's very happy to be teaching, and is really enjoying it. High School really is the place for her.
